A noisy Fort Mill Electrolux dryer
Recently, a Fort Mill, SC 29715, resident contacted us about an Electrolux dryer that was whistling or squealing loudly on startup. A scraping sound followed the startup squeal. The drum was rotating, but the noise was a concern. An unusual noise suggests a current or imminent problem.
The technician found a crack in the center of the blower wheel inside the dryer. The damaged wheel turned freely on its shaft, but the belt’s idler pulley was stiff when checked. The technician replaced both the blower wheel and the idler pulley.
He tested the dryer for approximately ten minutes after reassembling it, testing first without laundry and then with laundry in the drum. The noise had gone, and the homeowner was pleased with the result. One visit was all it took to correct the problem.
Why the second part mattered in this repair
The idler pulley was not replaced simply because the dryer was already open. Its stiff rotation was a separate issue discovered during inspection. The part needed replacing along with the cracked blower wheel. The old pulley would have failed at some point, though the timing is uncertain. The same two-part replacement is not a normal repair required by every noisy dryer.
