A homeowner from Indian Trail, NC 28079 recently reported that their Samsung dryer was not heating the air despite running normally. The drum turned, but the air didn’t heat, so the laundry stayed wet.

In need of help, the homeowner called Prime Appliance Repair. Our first action was to check the power supply and heating element to find what was causing the problem.

Finding an Open Heating Element

As expected, we found that the dryer had a 240-volt power supply, which we tested by voltmeter. There was no continuity, suggesting that the element had an open circuit, so we replaced the faulty element. The repair photograph shows the old heating element beside the new one in its box.

To prevent any further problems, we also replaced two thermal protection components. The components were both working and had not caused the non-heating problem. However, these parts degrade with time and changing these low-cost items now could save the customer the cost of another future failure.

Airflow Checked and Dryer Cleaned

The repairmen also checked the exhaust airflow and vent duct whilst the repair was underway. The duct was clear. Theyused the opportunity to vacuum the inside of the machine while it was open and the components were readily accessible.

These checks and cleaning tasks happened while the heating repair was underway.

Testing on Normal

To test the dryer,we ran it empty on a normal setting. This time, the drum air was warm.

We completed the repair in a single visit because we had the components in stock.

The dryer drum turned even with a failed heating element. The repairman identified the cause of the cold air by checking the voltage and testing the heating element.
