A homeowner contacted us when her Electrolux washer became unusually loud after the door boot (the flexible rubber seal around the drum opening) was replaced.

The homeowner told us this noise had started right after the door boot repair, and she wasn’t able to arrange a return visit with the previous technician. She contacted Prime Appliance Repair, hoping we could figure out what had gone wrong. We went along to the home in Charlotte's 28226 ZIP code to take a look.

With the recent repair in mind, our first task was to inspect the area around the replacement seal. We opened the washer, carefully removed the door boot…and found the culprit.

There was a metal hand tool that had been left behind, lodged right against the seal. Mystery solved: the tool was the source of the loud noise worrying the homeowner.

Removing it fixed the noise problem, but unfortunately, the tool had also damaged the new door boot, creating a hole in the rubber.

A door boot needs to remain intact to keep a waterproof seal around the door opening. Although the seal had recently been replaced, the damage caused by the tool meant another new door boot was needed.

Luckily, we had the replacement part with us, so we could remove the damaged boot and install a new one straight away, completing the repair in one visit. The customer didn't have to wait for us to order the seal and return to finish the job later. They could get straight back to using their washer.

Testing the washer with water fill, drain and spin

We wanted to ensure the washer was operating perfectly before we left, so, with the tool removed and the new seal installed, we put the washer through its paces. We ran the washer with water, then checked draining and spinning. The washer passed its checks with flying colors, with no loud noises, and when we inspected the new door boot for leaks? Not a drop.

When we left, both problems we found had been resolved: the loud noise from the forgotten tool and the damaged rubber seal. We had reassured the homeowner that her Electrolux washer was now working perfectly, with no leaks.

What to tell us if your washer becomes noisy after a repair

A new noise that begins after service alerts us that we need to check over the previous repair before we examine other components. It’s useful for us to know:

  • When the noise started
  • What work was recently carried out. What was fixed or replaced?

We serve homeowners in the 28226 area and can inspect the washer, explain what we find, and complete the necessary repair.

On this Electrolux, the customer's helpful description led us to inspect the area around the freshly installed door boot first, quickly locating the troublesome tool.
